Anoushka’s new single ‘Lovable’ featuring French-Cuban duo Ibeyi, is out now on Mercury KX, and focuses on heartbreak and loss as they sing “Am I still lovable, if you stop loving me? Am I enough, if you don’t want me?”

For this single, Anoushka has broken with personal tradition to undertake vocals for the first time, adding a soft, naked soprano to Ibeyi’s haunting harmonies, which also features on this track.

This summer Anoushka will be premiering a world exclusive of Passages at this years Proms Festival in London. In the mid-1960s a rising star of Western classical music, Phillip Glass, met the ‘Godfather’ of the Indian classical tradition, Ravi Shankar. The result was a collision of musical worlds and – some 25 years later – a studio album that combined Glass’s American Minimalism with Shankar’s sitar and the traditions of Hindustani classical music.

A hypnotic flow of sound blending cello, saxophone and other Western instruments with the glittering pulse of the sitar, Passages will be presented at the Proms in its first complete live performance. The Britten Sinfonia and Karen Kamensek are joined by sitar virtuoso Anoushka Shankar on 15th August 2017 at the Royal Albert Hall.

Anoushka is currently working on her first film composition for the film ‘Shiraz’. The world premiere of both the score (performed live) and of the BFI National Archive’s restoration of the film, specially commissioned in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the creation of India and Pakistan in 1947 as part of BFI’s India on Film programme and The UK India Year of Culture will be screened at the Barbican theatre in London on the 14th October 2017

Shiraz tells the story behind the construction of the Taj Mahal. It’s a tale of love and undying devotion, following Shiraz, the designer of the Taj Mahal, and his childhood sweetheart, the princess who became the Empress Mumtaz Mahal – to whom the mausoleum was dedicated. It’s a film as remarkable and ornate as the structure itself – and Shankar’s score promises to be just as impressive, as she echoes the magnificence of the Taj Mahal with stunning virtuosity.
