At the Proms
Ravi Shankar and Anoushka will perform at the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall. This performance marks a special landmark event for two reasons. This is the first time that either of them have appeared at the Proms, and it is the first time ever that the BBC Proms have given any music other than Western classical music a primetime slot. This is in honour of Ravi Shankar's 85th Birthday Tour and is one of the most unique and exciting concerts in this year's BBC Proms. In the first half Anoushka will perform her father's Sitar Concerto No. 1 with the BBC Symphony Orchestra conducted by Jurjen Hempel. In the second half Ravi and Anoushka will play traditional Indian ragas together. The performance will be recorded live on Radio 3 and you can tune in and listen to it on www.bbc.co.uk/proms/listen. The performance is on Wednesday 3rd August at 7.30pm and you can also listen to it for a week after the performance by going to the link above and selecting Prom 27.
